NewDisplayName
Hi, i bought this controller: https://www.mindfactory.de/product_info.php/Delock-89384-10-Port-PCIe-2-0-x2-Low-Profile-retail_993263.html lets say this controller dies, will my data be corrupted or can i just buy another one and be happy? I know its limited to 6gb/s, but this seems to be no problem im getting nearly 900mbits from and to the raid controller, so im happy. Edited December 11, 2017 by nuhll Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
If the controller dies you can use a different one, if it corrupts data while dying it will be a different story, but it's not a recommended controller and you can get an used LSI cheaper than that, I'd choose that option every time. NewDisplayName
Problem was, i couldnt get it here and i dont want to flash anything. I just plug it in and it worked. :> Just to be sure, would this also work: https://geizhals.de/inline-76617g-a1383867.html?hloc=de What will happen when it dies while transfering? Max the file which was transfered should be damaged, correct? Edited December 11, 2017 by nuhll Quote Link to comment

Not all LSI controllers need to be flashed, e.g. 9201 and 9207 are plug'n play. 16 minutes ago, nuhll said: Just to be sure, would this also work: No idea, it doesn't mention the chipset used, most likely and Marvell with a port multiplier, it should work but not recommended also. 18 minutes ago, nuhll said: What will happen when it dies while transfering? NewDisplayName
Yeah but they cost 3x. Lets say i buy one of these 2. How do i connect my sata drives? If i understand correct, these cards have sas, and then? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
They also work with SATA drives, and they can be found used for less than $50. Quote Link to comment
NewDisplayName
What do you mean, they work with sata drives, thats what i know, the question is how to connect them OR do youi mea, i can connect sata to the sas ports? Do 9201 has 16x sata port? Quote Link to comment
tdallen
Also known as a SFF-8087 Forward Breakout Cable. Quote Link to comment
NewDisplayName
Okay i found offer for <90€ so i would buy this. But please tell me how to connect my sata drives. And do you know a good psu? My license is for up to 16 drives, so i need a psu which can support that. Quote Link to comment
tdallen
4 minutes ago, nuhll said: But please tell me how to connect my sata drives. We just did... To connect SATA hard drives to a controller with SAS connectors you need a SFF-8087 Forward Breakout Cable, as mentioned and pictured above. 4 minutes ago, nuhll said: And do you know a good psu? Seasonic, Corsair - there are a number of good ones but I don't know what you will find in Germany. Get one with a single 12v rail and run a power supply calculator with all your hard drives, cards, and peripherals. Quote Link to comment

NewDisplayName
OKay, i bought now: https://jet.com/product/detail/a42a930037c841e7b8f8472f1c0a6523?jcmp=afl:link:0JlRymcP1YU:503301:10855504094:15&siteID=0JlRymcP1YU-OZldaVYe0T4u9KiWgbEl6A That should be the correct one, i dont know why, but i cant buy from ebay right now, and i really want to finish the server this year... edit: Omg, they dont ship to germany... its 2017... i cant seem to get this card for a reasonable price... edit2: Whats the difference to https://www.neweggbusiness.com/product/product.aspx?item=9b-16-118-147 16e? Edit3: also not shipping to germany. Its crazy, where should i get this card for <200€. Is the only difference between i16 and e16, that e16 has 16 outside? So i just need longer cables!? Can u recommend this? Its in a Rack, so u wont see behind anyway. Edited December 15, 2017 by nuhll Quote Link to comment
tdallen
Yeah, the "i" is for internal connectors and the "e" is external connectors. Be careful on the cable length, though - you don't want to go too long or you can have issues. In the US we get many of these SAS/SATA controllers on eBay, pulled from corporate servers which are being decomm'd. This was a good one: 2 hours ago, nuhll said: Is that the correct one? http://www.ebay.at/itm/LSI-Internal-SAS9201-8i-6Gb-s-PCI-Express-2-0-RAID-Controller-Card/272885782342?hash=item3f89429746:g:9VAAAOSwUSJZ4Hot Quote Link to comment
