dikkiedirk
What is the best and possibly quickest way to preclear an 8TB disk? Is the plugin version working reliable in unraid 6.3.5 or 6.4? Or should I rely on the cli version if it still works at least. Should I do 3 passes an which script is the quickest and most reliable? I will upgrade my parity disk to 8TB first. Have there been any upgrades to the preclear plugin and scripts to make them more reliable? Is it possible to use the Free trial version of unraid to Preclear some disks? Quote Link to comment
bonienl
For your consideration... Whenever I do a disk replacement for a larger disk, I do this without preclearing. After replacement a disk rebuild will be performed and doing a read/write cycle for the complete disk. Any DOA (never happened) is caught at this point in time. Quote Link to comment

Especially an 8TB disk takes a long time to preclear and I wasn't looking forward to that?. Quote Link to comment
BobPhoenix
I always run 3 cycles of preclear even on my 8TB drives. I've had drives die on the third cycle before - none of the 8TB drives - but I have had others (WD 2TB EARS) work perfectly on the first two cycles and die on the third. Preclear time: 120:17:18 for 3 cycles on a NON pro WD red 8TB - so yes takes a LONG time. 1 Quote Link to comment
