gears177
Hey guys really new to this software it's my first time setting it up and was wandering if there was a way that slackware I believe the os is? Supports wifi. My computer is currently a floor away from the router I've looked into power line adapters but they won't work due to something with how my breaker box is wired and the outlets not being daisy chained together? Any help at all would be appreciated thanks again Edited August 3, 2017 by gears177 Quote Link to comment
ashman70
Find a way to run a network cable, wireless may work (I have no idea if it actually can or will) but it will only prove to be a disappointing endeavour and frustrate you to bits. Quote Link to comment
gears177
I will attempt this in the mean time Anyone have any idea on how doable this is. I heard you could compile your own OS version to support it. Why would wireless be dissapointing Quote Link to comment
tdallen
Wireless is subject to all sorts of interference - other electronic sources as well as objects and building infrastructure. Generally you want your server to have a smooth, steady connection to your home network. Quote Link to comment
gears177
Makes sense but then again i have two long range Alpha wireless network adapters I use to stream realtime now without a problem may just run a very long cable Quote Link to comment
tdallen
If you feel like wireless will really be sufficient, then look for an external wireless adapter, typically marketed as gaming adapters or wireless repeaters with bridge mode. Basically you have an Ethernet link from your server to the external adapter, and then the adapter is wireless into your home network. It might work out, but if it doesn't you've been advised - buy from someplace with a good return policy... 1 Quote Link to comment
