The latter being a pure HBA with no need for firmware updates. Curious if there is a reason. Is the 9211 superior in some way? I have the 9201 and it works great, and have recommended to several people that have also had a good experience. Just curious. More because of its availability, I usually also mention the SAS2008 chip, 9201 also uses that one. Quote Link to comment
BobPhoenix
When I see 9201 I think of the 16i/e versions myself. Quote Link to comment
whiteatom
That's what I'm seeing - the 16 port. I'm also seeing that i can get 3 SAS2LP's for the same price. I gotta pull the trigger on a 24-bay case at some point soon, so the card might just wait until then! Quote Link to comment
BobPhoenix
I like the 16i versions. I've switched to them in two servers now. Cuts down on the card count so I can use the PCIe slot freed up for another card like a TV Tuner card. Quote Link to comment
SSD
I have a 9201-16i and a 9201-16e, but don't own the -8i version. But I just looked on eBay and there were 5 SAS9201 -8is under $50. I've never looked and not found some for sale around that price. Quote Link to comment

Yes, but don't forget that not everyone lives in the US, they're much harder to find for a decent price in Europe for example. Edited June 27, 2017 by johnnie.black Quote Link to comment

FreeMan
Any thoughts on those 9201-8is that are listed on eBay as "Seller Refurbished"? Makes me a little nervous... continues the threadjack Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Seller refurbished usually means used, but it can also mean repaired, don't have a problem with used, repaired on the other hand would avoid. Quote Link to comment

Seems like a reasonable measure of common sense. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
whiteatom
Relevant thread jack, so I wouldn't be concerned! Borrowed an SAS2LP from a friend and all my problems are resolved. The card was absolutely the problem. Just gotta do a bit of research on the LSI cards now! Quote Link to comment
