Licensed USB stick alternatives

Is Limetech working on an alternative licensing method for future versions? I find the requirement for a specific USB stick a bit antiquated, like the old dongles software vendors used to provide which you had to plug into the back of your computer. In my case I have to do USB pass through for the UNRAID VM which works fine but i'm concerned the USB stick will die at some point. I keep a backup of the configuration but when it dies so does my license. Would a Microsoft online activation method work?

usb works fine for licensing. you don't lose your license if the stick dies.

 

physical key is an inexpensive way for LT to keep it from becoming pirated more easily.

No. There are many of us that rely on being able to keep a server running without ever allowing it to connect to the internet.

 

As @1812 said, there is no problem activating a new key if the old one dies or is lost. If there are other extenuating circumstances, Limetech is a very small company, you can easily get in touch with them to work out any issue.

Also you can easily register a new stick, deregistering the old one in the process, you can only do this once per year automatically though, any more often and you'll need to contact LT.
