Justin_
Hey guys, I will soon be replacing my NAS with one that has newer hardware and I was wondering if I can use my current UNRAID Pro licence on the new box, or if I would need to purchase a new software key. Quote Link to comment
garycase
Sure -- just move the USB flash drive to the new system. Keys are "non-transferable" to a new owner; but you can use your own key on any system you want. Folks are upgrading their systems all the time on this forum Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Yes, key is bound to the flash drive . Quote Link to comment
Justin_
Cool thanks! I didn't know if the key was also bonded to the motherboard/configuration like with Windows Quote Link to comment
wayner
What's the best way to do a transition if you want to turn up a new system and start configuring it and then transfer your license over and shut down the old system? Can you transfer the license to a different key? Quote Link to comment

Can you transfer the license to a different key? You can do an automated license transfer once per year, if you have another usb drive failure and need to transfer again before the year is up you would need to contact limetech through email and explain the situation. wayner
Great, that seems reasonable. Quote Link to comment

That's exactly what I would want to do. Build a new system with a trial license and get it working properly - then transfer over your data and license. Quote Link to comment
garycase
Note that in most cases all you need to do is (a) build the new system; (b) connect all of the drives from the old system to the new one; and (c) simply boot to your USB flash drive .... and the new system will work just fine. The only time that's an issue is if you have an unsupported controller on the new system and it doesn't "see" one (or more) of your drives. ... and that's easy to test with a trial key by just connecting a drive to each of the controller on the new system.
