TUMS
I'm running dual parity with 8TB wd reds right now. Thinking about swapping them to HGST He10 drives sometime soon. Can someone tell me the best way to do it so I don't mess up. I don't want any screw ups. Also, I think I want to add those 8TB reds back into the array as data drives. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
itimpi
It is simply a case of stopping the array, putting a 10TB in place of the 8TB and then restarting the array to allow parity to built onto the replacement disk. If you want to remain protected then do each parity drive individually. If you replace both of them at the same time then you are unprotected whilst both parity drives are rebuilt, but the elapsed time is shorter. Once the parity is rebuilt on the 10TB drives you can simply assign the 8TB drives as new data disks, and unRAID will Clear them and once the Clear has finished offer to format them with your desired file system (default being XFS). TUMS
Thanks itimpi. :-) Sounds easy enough. Since this was dual parity upsizing I wasn't totally sure the procedure. Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Beware that the He10 is available as both 512e and 4kn, make sure you get the 512e variants since 4kn is currently not supported by unRAID. 1 Quote Link to comment
TUMS
Thanks Johnnie. I will definitely make sure when I go to buy them. Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Just to add how to spot it by the model #: HUH7210xxALE60y - 512e HUH7210xxALN60y - 4kn 1 Quote Link to comment
