V6 FAQ TOC Links Broken

Basically a bump here to bring this to the attention of @jonp  The links were working, but stopped working within the last week or so.  Any link in any post that references a specific post (post, not thread) that was originally created in SMF and imported no longer works.  This isn't limited to the FAQ TOC, but is every single link of this type...

Was just checking to see if anything was going on with resolving this issue.  @jonp    has one post for the whole month of April and hasn't been on the board since last Friday about Noon.  Unless he is on an extended vacation or has been ill, I suspect that we may not be seeing much done about this issue.

I  have tried to find a simple way to be able to recover that original post from the old link but I have been unsuccessful at this point.  I tried 'search' but the search engine for this forum seems rather weak in getting one to a particular post within a thread.  If someone has some ideas, I would be interested in hearing them.

TOC for the unRaid FAQ has already been fixed.  VM FAQ same thing.  (And by fixed, I mean redone by myself)  Docker FAQ never needed to be redone.  Guides and Videos for the most part works fine.  Those are the biggies.  Everything else is scattered throughout all of the threads, which no one is ever going to go and fix.  If jonp has nothingg to say on the subject, then its also possible that there's nothing that can be done anymore about it.  (Although I hope not).  But, with every passing day, those links scattered throughout the various threads become less relevant.  Its the FAQ that were always the big issues, and the workaround has already been done.

However, a lot of the links in the other stickies for Version 6 General Support haven't been fixed.  There were several posts that I wrote with links that I would like to fix if I could find a way to locate some of them in this thread:

But the posts that I linked to are often buried deep within other threads and there are so many pages of individual posts and finding that one particular post is virtually impossible.  If there was a easier way to locate them I would be willing to fix them...

Here's how any user can at least see the post for any of the links that are not working.

Click the link.  You'll be taken to the index of the current forum

Change the URL in the address bar to be something like this:

From:

https://forums.lime-technology.com/?topic=43858.msg531190#msg531190

to

https://lime-technology.com/oldforum/?topic=43858.msg531190#msg531190

You'll then see the linked post.  You won't be able to reply to that particular thread, but at least you'll be able to see what is being linked to

Thank you!!!!    I have just changed a few link in the sticky threads.  It does work.  IT will take a while but I will be updating mine as time permits.

I don't think this is a good workaround, as the oldforum links will probably go away after awhile. I don't have a good answer, but I wouldn't spend too much time editing links to use it.

Sure would be nice to get an answer from @jonp or @limetech about a more permanent fix to the link issue.

But if you use it now, it will get you to the post on the old forum.  You then can find the thread by deleting all of the stuff beginning with the  first  .msg  to the end of the link you want to repair to find the thread on the new forum.  (The search engine on the new forum leaves much to be desired!)  Once having found the post in the thread in the old forum using @Squid's method, you can then use the date on that individual post to find that post in the thread on the new new forum.  (I have quickly found posts in threads with 60+ pages of posts.)  You then click on the date on that post and the link to that post (in the new forum) will then appear in the URL bar of your browser.  It now becomes a copy-and-paste operation.

It does take a while to do but if you are only going to change those links that folks are most likely to want to use  (I am thinking of ones in 'Sticky' threads), it should not take too long to get those fixed...

Opened another ticket with IPS citing this example.  Thanks Squid!

I hope you're not missing the point.  We don't want the forum to redirect back to the old forum.  Rather we want the old forum links which have specific messages referenced instead of a thread to go to the correct post on IPS.  It did work correctly for a couple of weeks after the transition, and then it just plain stopped...

I understand completely. A fix was deployed last night. Please help test today and let us know if there are any non-working examples.

The solution that IPS implemented with regards to URLs pointed at specific messages not going to the proper IPS post actually broke another section that *WAS* working.

Namely, that old posts from SMF that pointed to the OP of a thread would redirect properly to the IPS thread until the above fix was implemented.

IE:

From the Videos And Guides TOC

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=52403

This link used to work correctly.  (IPS translates it now to be https://forums.lime-technology.com/?topic=52403?topic=52403),

When in reality the actual redirected URL should be https://forums.lime-technology.com/topic/50678-video-guide-how-to-install-unraid-as-a-vm-on-another-unraid-server/#comment-499024

Beyond the postings within multitudes of threads, this means that for the most part, the TOC for the Videos and Guides sticky is unusable.

And, another bump that it appears that the entire SMF forum is now off of LT's servers which is severely hampering the ability to rebuild the Docker FAQ

Not all of the old links are working correctly

IE:

http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=40299.msg495429#msg495429

Should wind up at *I THINK* (95% sure)

https://forums.lime-technology.com/topic/38619-docker-template-xml-schema/?page=2#comment-491269

And its instead winding up at

https://forums.lime-technology.com/?topic=40299.msg495429?topic=40299.msg495429#msg495429  Which simply displays the forum home page.

Not quite sure why some work and others don't.

For a full compliment of links that don't work, see here https://forums.lime-technology.com/topic/38619-docker-template-xml-schema/, but it would take some digging to determine where they are all supposed to link to.

@jonp  Upon further investigation, every single link from the old forum that links to a post that is NOT on the first page of the thread in IPS will fail.  If the old forum link winds up on the first page of the IPS version, it works fine.  All due to IPS having the page # in its link.
