Array won't start with new disk added

You're 10TB seagates ST10000NM0146 are 4k native, unRAID currently only supports 512e, that would be the ST10000NM0086.

I don't understand that 100%. And why doesn't unraid tell me this? I can use the disks with pre-clear script and access it with "unassigned device" but not add it to the array.

I don't get any error message, the page just reloads and I can press start again.

Is there a solution for me?

If so how do I do it?

Since they are not supported there is not a visible error on the GUI, but there's this on the syslog, the invalid partition error is the normal error on this situation:

Apr 7 08:33:48 Tower root: Creating new GPT entries.
Apr 7 08:33:48 Tower root: The operation has completed successfully.
Apr 7 08:33:48 Tower emhttp: shcmd (1196): udevadm settle
Apr 7 08:33:48 Tower emhttp: invalid partition(s)

4kn support should be added soon, maybe for v6.4, until then only solution is to swap those disks for the 512e equivalent model.

Thanks for the answer.

What I have done with another 4k native disk is pre-cleared it and accessed it with "unassigned device" but not add it to the array, and moved data to it. Is that to be expected and is it safe?

Sorry for your trouble, and hope 4k sectors can be supported soon.

I did want to mention that it is fine using these outside the array BUT, if it is your intent to use these as partially full data drives once unRaid supports them properly, you may have trouble.

Adding a drive containing data requires doing a new config and rebuilding parity. (Otherwise the disk will get cleared and all its data purged in an irrecoverable way.) But unRaid lays down a very specific partition structure, and if a disk isn't partitioned that way, unRaid won't mount it. You'd have to copy all its data off, let unRaid format it, and copy all the data back. For this reason, I tend to let unRaid format disks I have any intention of becoming part of an array. (I have a spare usb stick I use for this purpose).

In your case with these 10T monsters with 4k sectors, unRaid will not partition/format them today. And the way that unassigned pluggin does it may or may not be compatible with unRaid in the future. (The way it does it now for smaller disks is not compatible from what I understand). Meaning you should not assume that it will be easy to just put them in an array with data in place.

Just trying to add a little more joy to your situation. ?

I have two 10Tb disks that is doing fine in unRaid, I didn't have a clue that there existed drives that don't work in the current version of unRaid. Now I have 20Tb enterprise disk space with 5 year warranty, I hope I can use them in the near future, but I'm afraid it will be months maybe years if it will ever happen :(

I didn't have any plans in adding them to the array with data in the first place, thanks for the heads up ;-)

Does this only affect 10tb drives? I have been preclearing 8th WD drives, will these work fine without the 4k issue? I intend to add the 8tbs as parity drives with a mind for future upgrades from my current max size 4tb drives.

It has nothing to do with the capacity, just the sector size, most disks emulate 512kb sector size, these are OK, any capacity, 4k native disks won't work for now, AFAIK there's not a model that is o 4kn exclusively, there are always the 2 options, 512e and 4kn, e.g, Seagate Enterprise 10 and 12TB are available in both:
