My VM is stuck in a boot loop (screenshot attached) but I entered "it" corretly in my xml file… any idea?!

is run sierra 10.12.14 but i have installed the FakeSMC patch.

Only thing I did different was using Parallels for creating my VM Image – problem?

if you installed the smc patch for 10.12.4, then you need to remove

<qemu:arg value='-device'/>
       <qemu:arg value='isa-applesmc,osk=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'/>

<qemu:arg value='-device'/>
       <qemu:arg value='isa-applesmc,osk=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx'/>

from your xml.

First, I want to thank Gridrunner for all of his guides.  It takes a lot of time and effort and it is much appreciated.  I am in the process of following your most recent fast, easy way for OSX and I've run into a problem.  When I remove the interface type down section in the XML and copy in your version and try to update the XML, I get the following error message:

VM creation error

XML error: Attempted double use of PCI slot 0000:02:03.0 (may need "multifunction='on'" for device on function 0)

Here is my XML after copying in your section.  Of course I've redacted the OSK key.

Gridrunner,

Thank you for the XML.  That did the trick and it now allows me to save the XML.  Now on to my next issue.  When the VM is booting, I get the apple icon and the progress bar moving along nicely.  When the progress bar gets to roughly 60%, the apple icon is replaced with a circle with a slash thru it and booting ceases.  I Googled around a bit but didn't find anything helpful.  Any ideas?

@elmn8r : I think I already got this issue which was caused by an invalid CPU.

I had to tweak the XML to make it works.

Also make sure the bus type is set for sata

  <target dev='hdc' bus='sata'/>

Is this right to use ...... host-passtrough??. According to posts above

  <cpu mode='host-passthrough'>

Hi Peter,

yes use the host passthrough and define the topology. You only need to define the cpu as penryn the one time as qemu arg value

Also by having the topology defined osx will show cpu type. Mine reports as 4 core xeon this way.

below is my xml i am using for 10.12.4 at the moment

I have a present for all people suffering from no audio through HDMI or DisplayPort on a passed though nVidia GPU.

First install the latest web drivers for 10.12.4 (378.05.05.05f02).

Remove any HDMIAudio kext from Clover's directories.

Install this kext via it's install script (shamelessly stolen from Gridrunner and modified for this kext):- https://www.dropbox.com/s/63oepr106v0wurz/HDMI Audio 1.1 Installer.zip?dl=0

Enjoy sound from any HDMI or DisplayPort on your graphics card :)

An optional install is Soundflower + SoundFlowerBed to enable volume control on your Videocard output :)

Hi Folks!

Working on getting a MACOS Sierra 10.12.4 running from the "easy updated" youtube guide. I actually have it running fine now but I'm having trouble with VNC. I need to use VNC so my guacamole server can connect to it. The issue is that the mouse and keyboard are very flaky.... big delays on typing text and multiple key presses (like a stuck key) and of course, the mouse is not syncing correctly. I've tried Real VNC client and Chicken of the VNC with the same results as NOVNC any suggestions? XML below

Thanks for that advice but it's not an option for this configuration. I need to actually solve the problem.

suggestion: don't use vnc.

Use either splashtop or team viewer. If you don't need audio, stick with mac screen share.

Thanks for the suggestion but it's not an option for this configuration. I need to actually solve the problem. I think there is a deeper issue because I see the same behavior with VNC on my Ubuntu VM.

Are you using unraid's VNC server, or do you have a VNC server installed in the VM? You will see much better performance with the server running directly in the VM.

Hey guys,

In the OSX VM running on top on unRAID, I'm trying to install Docker. It refuses to install with the following error: "Incompatible CPU detected"

Apparently the CPU appears to lack some instructions or capabilities. Any idea?

I tried to run the VM by changing the CPU type in the XML from Penryn to host, and newer types, but OSX refused to load in all the scenarios.

Any clue?

Essentially the same problem(s) as above. If you can get VMware fusion running under macOS, then you can probably get Docker for Mac running.

Hello guys,

I wanted to give a quick update about all the questions i've been asking previously.

About the Docker issue, I've not been able to fix it, so I created a Linux VM with only Docker in it, and it works perfectly :)

Regarding the sound issue, I was using a USB sound card, and I wasn't passing an entire USB controller. I did it and it solved all the glitches.

Thanks again for all your help :)

Thanks a lot for the hint with the 2nd video to get it running with OS X Sierra 10.12.4. As this version is actually used when creating the image in VMware, I missed the UPDATE portion (I was already on.4 so no need to watch ;)

But now, with the machine up and running a basic question came up and I was not able to search for an answer. Increase the disk size of the vm.

My first (and IMHO logical) step was to define a bigger disk in unRAID

then used OS X disk tools to extend the boot partition (entered size directly) and let it execute

rebooot --> dead sign ø

Is there a different step list?

I can't get a usb 3 controller to work. Nothing turns up on the VM. It doesn't work on nec-xhci, but works with piix3-uhci.

Not all usb 3 controllers work in OS X. Easier to passthrough a known working card to the vm.
