Can't mount Virtual Disk because it's in use.

Every so often I can't remount my virtual disk (vhdx file) after I restart my Windows VM because it says it's in use. Only restarting unraid makes it so I can mount the virtual disk again.

 

Is there any way to make the file not in use anymore without restarting all of unraid?

I choose to use the Plugin "Open Files" to do the job.

Find the entry that locks the .vhdx file and you are fine.

 

cleanest way would be to disconnect the disk through windows before you reboot, but you are probably as lazy as I am ;-)

Any other idea how to solve this issue? I have a permanently mapped VHDX and frequently reboot my Windows VM. I hope there is some more convenient way to fix this?

Sorry to resurrect this thread, But was there ever a solution to this. i am having the same issue.

This post came up when I was searching for a solution so I'll post how I solved it.

 

In unraid terminal, use the 'fuser' command on the vhdx file you want to stop. This will return the process ID that's using the file. Then in terminal use 'kill ####' with the process ID #.
