[Plugin] Linuxserver.io - Unraid DVB

Does the TBS card work with the OE build? Be surprised if it did...

I think to test you need to know that the signal that is coming in is good and that the tuner is actually working.  Perhaps try the USB one on a windows machine.

Hi, I was wondering if someone could clarify a few things for me.  I'm trying to replace the now-deprecated WMC with a DVR functionality on my UnRAID server.  From what I'm understanding about this plugin is that it will allow me to install either TVHeadEnd or MythTV.  I don't know much about either of those two programs, but I want to make sure that I'm understanding all of what is required here before I start trying stuff out.... so here are my questions/comments:

1. I would be using a HDHomeRun tuner

2. I'm only interested in recording OTA channels

3. I would need a TV guide functionality to schedule upcoming recordings

4. I do NOT need any sort of frontend for playing back the videos.  Ultimately the only thing I want to do with the videos is (after maybe running some file renaming program to them) dump them into a folder that Plex can read (so the format of recording is important).

5. The comment at the start of this thread says "These are not necessary if you use Homerun or IPTV devices."  Is that referring to the special UnRAID build?  So since I am using HDHomeRun this seems to be saying that I don't need this plugin, but that can't be right... is it?  Is there a difference between installing this plugin and installing the special UnRAID build?

6. After installing this plugin I can then install either the TVHeadEnd or MythTV plugins.  Any recommendation for which to choose for what I want to do?

Thanks for the help, I'm not certain that this solution is what I want, but then again I don't think there is any other choice out there for UnRAID.  I am aware of the DVR that HDHomeRun is developing with Plex integration and while it sounds great I'm a bit put off by their high price.  Also it's not out yet and the free Windows 10 upgrade is expiring (which is what is pushing me off of WMC now).  Is anyone aware if this HDHomeRun DVR would run on UnRAID?

You do not need this plugin if you use an hdhomerun. You are ready to install either mythtv or tvheadend. I would go for tvheadend, but that is personal preference.

Well OK then, thank you very much!  Yeah I'll check them both out.  Not sure if either or both have a (free) TV guide to schedule recordings, but I'll do some research...

Working here with beta20 and a TBS card. Good job  :D

In case there are someone else with a TBS card and a Supermicro X9 motherboard I experienced some troubles getting the TBS card recognized (6985). It did not show in the device list in unraid.

After a little bit of googling I found the solution to be to set the speed of the PCIe port to GEN1. Some might also have to set the below for tit to work.

Active state power management = ForceLOs

After this I had no problem getting the card to work. Don't really know if it works as I don't have a dish anymore, but it's found by Tvheadend  :)

Here is the link for the above info in case someone wants some more reading.

Thanks! I had the same problem with an ASUS mb. AUTO disables the slot it was in but GEN1 makes it work

What driver base are you using for Digital Devices cards in unRAID DVB Edition?

There is git repo from the vendor which is updated frequently:

https://github.com/DigitalDevices/dddvb

I would buy a DD Max S8 card. In media-build-experimental is a old version of the driver (0.9.18).

In the git repo of the vendor its version 0.9.23.

I'm using the one they mention in support on their website....

I will ask the vendor next day which should be used. But last update in media-build-experimantal (11 month ago) is very old compared to the github repo (7 days).

Yeah, I'm just looking at it and when I created the 6 beta 21 build I had to edit a lot of the kernel files to get it to compile so I wonder if that is because that repo is outdated.

The only problem I'm forseeing it the ddbrdge.conf file.  It needs to be edited depending on your config, and it's packaged up in the bzroot file.  Now assuming all those that use th DDExp build need differing configs, then that creates a problem.

At the moment the only solution I can think of is a generic version of the build and I could write a script to decompress bzroot and then people can edit the ddbridge.conf file and recompress the bzroot file.  It's a pain for all those of you that use it so I'm open to ideas....

Biggest problem I have is that I can never test them either.

Just tried installing from the github repo following the instructions on their website and it's not working at all.  Will spend a bit more time on it and see, but bit stumped as to the problem tbh.

Hi CHBMB,

had a call with Digital Devices now. The github dddvb repo (vendor development) is the repo to use. media-build-experimental from endriss is outdated (as you can see on his last commit 11 month ago).

Here are the Knowledgebase entry for dddvb:

http://support.digital-devices.eu/knowledgebase.php?article=152

Newest is 0.9.23 (https://github.com/DigitalDevices/dddvb/archive/0.9.23.tar.gz)

There is another user on github (herrnst) who tries to integrate the dddvb drivers into the mainline kernel :-). Maybe his dev-repo helps you  (reuse of code) for your DVB Edition:

https://github.com/herrnst/dddvb-linux-kernel/tree/mediatree/master-ddbridge

("Basic" branch for ddbridge 0.9.23 and CXD2843/STV0367/STV090x/STV0910/DRXK-Support (Dual DVB-C/C2/T/T2/S/S2-cards and -modules)

https://github.com/herrnst/dddvb-linux-kernel/tree/mediatree/master-ddbridge-features

("Feature" branch with DVB-API-changes (DVB-C2-Support, MaxS8/mxl5xx-Support, OctoNet-Support, Resi DVB-C-Modulator, CXD2099/DuoFlex-CI-improvments)

Independently from this project, I need a new dish and LNB. The new setup works parallel to the old existing one.

Right now I use a Octopus Net V2 satip box on a very old and bad dish. If it will not work with unRAID, then I simply replace the DuoFlex cards in my Otopus Net V2 with the Max S8 card ;).

If we got it working and it runs stable, I sell the Octopus Net V2 satip box.

But if herrnst is able to integrate the dddvb-driver into the mainline kernel, the chance is quite good it will work. Depends then on the kernel version in future unRAID versions.

OK, just don't want you spending a lot of cash on something that may not work, as long as you have a backup plan I'm good with that.  But you'll have to be prepared to put some work in as well on this.  I won't be able to do it all.

Yeah i've had a look at this, the problem is he isn't using the same version of the kernel as we are in Unraid.  And one thing I am absolutely 100% on is that I'm not changing the kernel version for Unraid releases.  I've been asked in the past to and spoke to LT and their view was the same as mine, which is that it isn't a good idea.

The endriss branch is no longer compiling on the new beta anyway, so I'll see if I can get the drivers from the Digital Devices github, and I'll take a look at the other chaps site.  Bottom line is I'll do what I can but I'm no linux developer and a lot of it is way over my head.  ::)

V6 Beta 23 OpenElec, TBS, Digital Devices uploaded, V6 Beta 22 Digital Devices uploaded.

NB: The Digital Device builds are still the Experimental Endriss version.

Still haven't managed to get the Digital Devices github drivers to build...  :(

hey CHBMB,

i'm planing on buying the same TBS 6205 (Quad T2/C-Tuner) card, as you. do you list only T2 functionality on purpose in your signature, or because you only use DVB-T(2)?

i will use the DVB-C standard of the card, but nevertheless i guess i'm right in thinking of having full support driver wise? ;-)

and thanks for your continued support!

I only use DVB-T(2) but the driver package is the same.  Actually all the TBS drivers come in one pack from TBS.

Howdy CHBMB, would it be possible for you to take a look at Dave-Kay's support request?  It appears to be a system based on a 6.1.9 DVB build, and contains some non-standard things I don't know enough to help with.  Near the bottom is a crash that appears to involve a kdvb object.

It's not that I or other troubleshooters don't want to help him, but there are enough differences evident to make us uncomfortable, unable to tell what's normal for this build and what's a true issue.  If I saw anything I recognized as an issue, I'd try to help, but I don't.

Done Rob, thanks for the heads up.

And it doesn't look normal for a DVB system either...
