Solved:Upgrade v5.0-beta14 to v5.0-rc12a

Steps I read from the wiki to upgrade from unRAID v5.0-beta14 to unRAID v5.0-rc12a

Only upgrade a server that has all disks enabled with valid parity: no missing disk(s), no disabled disk, etc.

Verify everything is working correctly with your current release before proceeding.

Backup the entire contents of your Flash device before upgrading. If something goes wrong or a major problem is uncovered in the release this will make it easier for you to downgrade.

Can i just select all files including hidden files in the thumb drive and backup to another storage?

Record the model, serial number, and position of each of your hard disks. Perhaps the easiest way to do this is take a screen capture of the Disk Status page.

Disable or un-install all non-stock unRAID add-ons. Only use add-ons that have been verified to work properly with this release by the add-on author.

What is the easiest way to do this. I install a lot of addons before with complicated settings. Can i just delete everthing in the thumbdrive and copy latest unraid onto thumb drive. Can i just install latest unraid and see if plugins works? if anything happens, restoring backup unraid can solve problems with plugins? are there any folder critical to unraid that i need to be aware of?

Prepare the flash: either shutdown your server and plug the flash into your PC or Stop the array and perform the following actions referencing the flash share on your network:

Copy the files bzimage and bzroot from the zip file to the root of your flash device, overwriting the same-named files already there.

Reboot your server. Once boot-up has completed, you should see "Stopped. Configuration valid." array status with all disks assigned correctly.

Click on each disk link on the Main page and examine the Partition format field. If you see "MBR: error", or "MBR: unknown" for any disk, do not Start the array; instead post your finding in the Forum announcement thread for this release. If everything looks ok, click Start to bring the array on-line.

Go to Utils/New Permissions and execute that utility to change file ownership and permission settings. This is necessary for proper operation of the 5.0 security model.

thank you

You really only need to save the config directory. But it's just as easy to copy the entire contents. See my sig to disable add-ons. Enable them after the upgrade is complete. If one causes a problem then post in the add-on forum.

Im sorry but im a complete noob. What do you mean by

3. Use the stock go file (boot(flash)/config/go).

How do i use the stock go file?

and

Stock go file:

#!/bin/bash

# Start the Management Utility

/usr/local/sbin/emhttp &

What is the meaning of "Stock go file:"? is this how you use stock go file? Is emhttp & is used to start management utility?

Thanks.

Im not sure what you mean by gui. i can access the server through http://tower/.'>http://tower/. i can telnet. i can ipmi my server. i just cant ssh.

thanks.

The GUI means the Web GUI ==> the page you get when you go to http://tower/

From what you've described, all is working fine as far as the stock UnRAID goes.  I'd copy the complete contents of the flash drive to folder on your PC, and then start adding your plugins, etc. => then if anything goes awry you can easily revert to where you are now.

Stock unRAID does not have ssh, you can re-install it once the conversion/upgrade is done, but for now, use telnet.

My bad. i forgot that i installed ssh plugins. thanks.

since its a hassle for me to manage without ssh, i just revert back to full installed unraid(not stock) and upgrade. hopefully, all goes well.

im currently at "Go to Utils/New Permissions and execute that utility to change file ownership and permission settings. This is necessary for proper operation of the 5.0 security model." Do i need to do this if i upgrade from v5.0-beta14 to v5.0-rc12a?

Thanks.
