  2. Thanks for the reply. Sorry for posting in the wrong place. 1. I thought I had added a swap file set up at some stage, but perhaps this is a red-herring. 2. I know. As mentioned, I was only intending on using the USB to check it worked in principle before buying an SSD. 3. I did not remove the USB key while the server was on, although I see how my statement could be read that was. I removed the USB key before turning the server back on (because it often gets confused which drive to boot from and I didn't have a monitor attached to check), and in hindsight assumed doing so caused this issue. 4. Not sure I follow but I'll research before asking any more silly questions.... Thanks again

OK, I confess, I've been fiddling and I should know better I've recently replaced my PSU and added an 8 port Supermicro controller, both to allow future expansion but in the short term to allow me to add an SSD to get mySQL & my XBMC database on unRAID (without having to spin up discs). Before buying the SSD I wanted to do a 'proof of concept' by setting this up on a mounted USB key (a few weeks ago now). I only got part of the way through before I ran out of time and so never finished off what I started. Roll on to yesterday....... I had to shut the server down because of scheduled work on the electricity grip in my neighbourhood. When I came to power back on last night I couldn't access any shares or the web interface but I could telnet in. The syslog (attached) shows various processes being killed (oom_kill_process) after oom-killer was invoked at 23:06:42 and I'm thinking it's because I (foolishly) removed the USB key on which the swap file was set. Replacing the key does nothing (presumably it doesn't auto remount). Am I right that the swap file is the issue, or is something else causing the problem? Since I cannot access the interface to either re-mount the USB, or disable swap I'm a bit lost. Is there a config file I can modify to prevent initiation of the swap file or am I barking up the wrong tree. Thanks in advance for any help! syslog.txt

Over the years I'be built various HTPCs, I own a WDTV Live, (still) own an Popcorn Hour A100 & also a C200 but moved to XBMC running Aeon on a Revo R3610 a couple of months ago and haven't looked back. IMO it's the best there is if you have a family and want to keep things simple (for them). I use Ember Manager to make sure all the 'scraping' is as I want it. Yes, I'm still looking forward to the upcoming rich C200 firmware update and maybe I'll have a change of heart when it arrives, but I'm not holding my breath. The reason a bought a C200 (at release) was that I too wanted to retain full menu funcionality for my BD rips, but over time I realised that more often than not I just wanted to watch a movie (not the trailers & extras), and if anything, others find the flashy interface much more impressive than a BD menu! Fortunately for me I ripped my BDs to the folder structure as I had issues with several iso's with the early C200 firmware so moving to XBMC wasn't too painfull. In actual fact, I have deleted all but the main m2ts files (or created a single mkv file where the m2ts files were fragmented) to free about 2Tb of space on my server so can delay another HDD upgrade for a few months longer.... Just my 2 pence worth....

You may want to check with Scan that the cards come with the necessary breakout cables to connect the SATA drives - not sure that they do Also, it looks like you have two 8-port cards there ? - does the MB support two and/or do you have sufficient HDDs to justify buying two cards now. You could save a few quid until you need another? Cheers
  6. Hi I had a write-error occur a couple of weeks back so pulled the drive and replaced with another. Just got round to looking at the drive and see the SMART report shows errors but I don't know what they mean. Should I be worried? I'm going to run a long SMART test on the drive and possibly the pre-clear script as well. Thanks SMART.txt

  8. You may not have physically moved the disks but have you checked that they are still assigned to the original location in the devices page? Eg if disc 1 was "sda" before the new disc was added is it still assigned that way now? What happens if you swap the assignment of disc 1 & 2? Be sure to not start the array or parity check before someone more knowledgable has replied!!!
  9. Try starting the airvideo server (bash air-video-server.sh test.properties) from the consol so you can see the error messages. Assume there must be a way of capuring what's happening some other way but not sure how. I think I reallllllllly missed the 'libmp3lame'. Here's the error from log. Hopefully, prostuff1's package will resolve my issue once he is done with it. No pressure, prostuff1. :-) When you built the ffmpeg package did it complain that it couldn't find the lame package? Are you able to see the package details from the console to check it is properly installed like you can when typing "ffmpeg" (note sure what the actual command is for lame, but I can check later). You may want to try removing & reinstall lame using the file I linked too and try to rebuild ffmpeg again using the build option in my op.
  10. Yes, I'm certain it's the drive making the noise. It does it regardless of which machine it is in. It's currently in my 'test' unraid box, which i also use for preclearing etc. Not sure what you mean by tty12 but I'll search the forum. Thanks

Of all my other drives (20 in total i guess), none have this 'characteristic'. It's actually loud enough to hear in another room at night and the walls in my house are solid! I'll start another preclear tonight to see if it completes........third time lucky....
