  1. Hi all, I have been having trouble with my unraid server crashing for about a month now and I can not for the life of me figure out why. I don't recall doing anything with the server when I started noticing this problem occurring. About anywhere from 12-24 hours the server will just full out stall, no ping from unraid or from virtual machines, no error on the hdmi out either just a frozen terminal. I have tried everything I can think of other than running a different operating system and seeing if that will crash which I suppose I can try next after this post. Just for housekeeping I have Reseating the cpu Did a mem check with the built in unraid tool, 3 passes no issues Fully updated bios, ASUS PRIME B365M-A, BIOS dated: Tue 14 Jul 2020 12:00:00 AM CDT Fully updated unraid, stable, Version: 6.9.1 Ran the server at "bare bones" which to me is the plex docker, nginx proxy manager docker, and a pfsense virtual machine with nic passthrough, There is no crash logs in pfsense that I am aware of and I have had this setup for months with no issues so I wouldn't see pfsense being the problem. Cleared out any and all errors or issues with a fully updated fixed common problems plugin, this did not seem to change anything. I will try to boot into safe mode and see if the crash still occurs when the crash next occurs and see If I can troubleshoot further. If you guys have anything else that you think I should test I am all ears and I thank you for helping me out. I included the syslog from last reboot and I also have been keeping a syslog that saves in a share aswell. tower-diagnostics-20210326-1528.zip syslog-10.10.10.5.log syslog
  2. I have a very weird and oddly specific issue that I can't seem to find on the thread or the unraid subreddit. The issue in particular is with a windows 10 vm but I also have a macos high sierra vm that has the exact same effects if in the same scenario. The vm will randomly freeze up completely and the webgui will state the vm is paused. It won't resume from this state and will take a full destroy and start to get it back and running. Sometimes it will take 5 minutes to freeze and sometime it will take 12 hours. It seems completely random but it will without fail freeze up in a 12 hour time frame. I also have a ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1142 USB 3.1 Host Controller | USB controller (02:00.0) (Is the fact that unraid is showing this as a 2:00 card problematic even though it is a 3.1 card? ) that in the past worked flawlessly with the vm passsed through. To my knowledge I did set vfio-pci.ids correctly and the controller is in a separate iommu group. The issue with this card is when it is passed through to the the vm it will hang on tianocore for 2+ minutes and the first core applied to the vm will hit 100% usage (if cores 2-5 are pinned then core 2, if core 3-4 pinned then core 3, etc, etc) then core usage will go back to normal and finally load into windows without the card showing up. (Windows doesn't detect the card and none of the devices connected are detected). A weird quirk is that if the unraid os is fully rebooted then the card will work fine, until the vm freezes up again which would require another full reboot to get any functionality from the pci card. Unraid itself is stable with all dockers, plugins, and apps working fine and has not once crashed or seen abnormally high cpu or ram usage (except for when the vm hangs) the array and the cache have plenty of space and the caches btrfs file system is balanced. This seems like two separate issues but to my knowledge both problems have appeared at the same time so I believe they are somehow connected. I appreciate the generosity of everyone on this form for extending your guidance and wisdom to me and the others needing help. tower-diagnostics-20190515-2215.zip
  3. Whenever I start a intensive game on my windows 10 vm I can get to the launch screen but whenever the game loads in it crashes. Also any tabs open to unraid or any dockers will show this error in chrome. My ram usage in unraid is 95% so maybe that has to do with it? The vm will freeze up for a split second before actually crashing the game. I have 8gb to the vm and a 1080 for passthrough. Is unraid just running out of ram? I would assume not because that 8gb is already in use to the vm and the game couldn't use any more than what the guest has.
  4. I did some research. IOMMU is what it's called on the amd side of things but on Intel the bios setting and specification needed is VT-D and VT-X which both the cpu and motherboard have.
  5. Could anyone confirm is a MSI Z370 GAMING PRO CARBON AC ATX Motherboard Iommu compatible for vm gpu crossthrough with a intel i8700k cpu? Thanks in advance.
  6. Do you mean move the primary vdisk of the vm to the array and increase the size or is there a way to create a secondary vdisk on kvm. If so could I be pointed to a faq or tutorial.
  7. I am sure others are having similar issues with no resolve but nearly any game that uses the battle eye launcher. Nearly all Ubisoft games, Ark, R6S, Farcry 5, Etc can't run outside of a virtual machine disk since the launcher doesn't accept unc network paths. Has anyone found a workaround to this issue. Perhaps tricking windows into thinking that the network drive is a local drive or do I need to give up and make windows on the array instead of the cache for me local storage to the vm.
  8. I used this thread to try to disable ntp with no luck, I simply pasted this command into a putty session on my unraid host. Was this the wrong step to take to fix this issue? echo "options kvm-amd npt=0" > /etc/modprobe.d/kvm-amd.conf
  9. 16gb ddr3 ram fx-8320 8-core ga-970a-ud3 gtx 750ti Unraid 6.3.5 I recently setup unraid and I bought a new motherboard for the iommu and the windows vm runs games at a horrible speed, I have another gpu in the main pci-16x slot for unraid to grab for the gui and the second pci-16x slot has the 750ti for passthrough, both virtualization and iommu is enabled and unraid reports so in info. I have 8 gb of ram going to both the host and guest of and 6 cores of my cpu to guest and 2 for unraid. My problem is that games run terribly. A game like minecraft will run at 30 or lower frames and I know my gpu can do much greater than that. Whats weird is that in task manager the game is only using around 30% of the processing power available. I installed the virtio 0.1.1 drivers and the latest nvidia drivers from geforce experience. I also have ram leftover according to the webgui of unraid and the task manager of the guest os. Thanks for the help. (Decided to move this thread to virtulization instead of general support) autrey-nas-diagnostics-20170803-2117.zip

  11. Just wanted to close this thread off, I installed windows 10 on a vm and I shoved my windows 7 key since it was a upgrade into it and it worked like a charm.
  12. Is it at all possible to have two smb network drives that are in the same user share however one writes to the cache and keeps it there and one writes to the array and they can both see each other files. In the case of a read it just reads of the drives it's on but a write goes to whichever network drive you send it too. Or would it just be better just to change the cache to no or only in the web gui for that share when you plan to write to a specific drive.
  13. The saber tooth boards are a bit expensive, Im going for something around $100 or under if possible. I've been trying to pick apart this for a while for anything good. I may end up with a M5A97 R2.0 If that board plays well with unraid.
  14. I currently have a m5a78l-usb3 mobo with a 8320e cpu. I want to delve into unraid with the main purpose of creating a vm so I can have a nas and windows in one tower also maybe messing around with ubunu on the occasion. My problem is that my motherboard does not support Iommu and won't let me pass through my gpu to the windows guest os. So I need a motherboard that is capable of doing that and is compatible with my current cpu. It would also be nice to have internal graphics for unraid gui however I have a spare gpu if that isn't possible (Of course the mobo will need an extra 2 pcie slots if thats the case.)
  15. Valid point in that if it doesn't work then it will just stay linked to my motherboard and I can just revert back to windows without unraid. I will install unraid and post my results with hopefully a solved thread.
  16. I custom built the machine my self with the motherboard I entailed however I used Windows 7 home oem to save money compared to retail. I got the key from Microsoft via Amazon
  17. I am new to virtualization software and have a question that can make or break my purchase of unraid basic. Now if I have a windows 7 home [OEM] machine with an m5a78l-usb3 motherboard and the key is linked what would installing unraid to the machine, then virtualizing windows through unraid impact. For instance, will windows see that the key is on a different motherboard and will not be activated? Can I make unraid pretend it is the exact make of this motherboard to trick windows? Am I able to conatct microsoft and tell them to switch my key over to the virtualized unraid? If this is successful if I update unraid will the virtualized motherboard change and will I have to go through the process again and/or buy an entirely new key? I'm aware that I could buy a retail key but if I can use my oem key that I own right now than I would like to do that at any possibility.
