i801_smbus 0000:00:1f.3: SMBus is busy, can't use it!
joelrfernandes replied to slimshizn's topic in General Support
What eventually worked for me was using the "Unload Drivers" option from Dynamix System Temperature plugin (at unraid.local/Settings/TempSettings). That did stop the error message in the logs. -

Thank you! I did find that topic in my search but for some reason I was convinced that was about setting NUT up as a server in the unRAID machine and still required the UPS to be connected with the server. I should have looked better. I was able to get that installed and it’s now using the UPS info I have coming out from my NUT server. Thank you!

Hello, Currently I have my UPS connected to a Raspberry Pi with Network UPS Tools (NUT) installed. Is it possible to have unRAID to pull the UPS information via network? At minimum I need to have the server being shutdown after running 5 minutes on battery. How can I get this to work? Thank you

Hello all, I'm setting up a new server while I'm still running an old one. The idea will be to move the data from the old to the new once it's setup. Would it be possible to use a trial version of Unraid to get the settings in place and then once everything is setup and all drives are moved from the old server to the new one, can I then copy the flashdrive's content to the flashdrive that has the valid key? What files would I need to copy? Is this even the right procedure?

Any recommendations?

Hello everyone, I've been using Unraid for exactly 5 years now, always with the same hardware, just adding drives when those were needed. I started with a very low-end CPU (AMD A4-5300) + 8GB RAM and a MB with 8 SATA 6Gb/s connectors, at the time that was more than enough for me. The time to upgrade has come and I'm now setting up a proper storage server, more specifically a Supermicro 24 bay server with dual Xeon E5-2650 v2 and 48GB DDR3 ECC, which I talked a bit about it here. I've also purchased 2 new 10TB HD, one for parity and another for added storage. Now, I want to start from scratch, I don't want to take the existing config I have, which started from version 5.4 I believe, and has a lot of crap that either isn't working anymore (like custom scripts for fan control, etc) or are not needed or relevant anyway on the new hardware. With that said, and considering I have an entirely new 10TB drive, what's the recommended approach for this? If I wipe the thumbdrive and download the newest version of Unraid, I'm assuming I'll still be able to enter my license in the new installation, correct? I'm also assuming I will still have access to the drives content, but, files will be spread in multiple drives, so moving the data will be chaotic. What is the recommendation here? I will only have 10TB free and have about 34TB of data to move. On top of that, some of the _old_ drives are still using reiserfs, which I would like to format to xfs. Or better yet, another question for the community: what's the recommended file system for Unraid? My main usage of the array will be for media storage and consumption (movies, shows, photos), as well backups. TIA

Access the whole array via Samba
joelrfernandes replied to joelrfernandes's topic in General Support
Thank you. Unraid includes a UI to manage extra configs, which can be accessed at Settings / SMB / SMB Extras. For future reference, this is what I added there: [NAS] path = /mnt/user browseable = yes writeable = no write list = <my-username> valid users = <my-username> -
Hello all, As mentioned before, I'm purchasing one of these Supermicro storage server and originally it was supposed to come with a couple of two 10TB SAS drives, unfortunately that's not the case anymore and I'm not looking into getting the drives separately. I know that SAS is specifically for server/enterprise use, however, I've been reading that these Seagate Ironwolf drives are highly recommended for a storage server, but these are SATA interface. What is the recommendation here? The main purpose of my server is for media storage (movies, tv shows and pictures), as well personal backups. These are the drives I'm currently considering: Seagate 10TB SAS (ST10000NM0096) Seagate IronWolf 10TB NAS SATA TIA

Hello all, I'm considering purchasing one of these Supermicro servers that you can see here, more specifically with a couple of 10TB hard-drives + 2x E5-2650 v2 CPU. These come with a LSI 9210-8i RAID controller and I saw somewhere that I would need to flash it in order to use it with Unraid. Is there anything else that I would need to do or buy for this machine to be used with Unraid? Seems like a pretty good deal and I'm wondering if I'm missing something here. TIA

Access the whole array via Samba
joelrfernandes replied to joelrfernandes's topic in General Support
I don't want a UI to manage the local files, I could do that via the console if needed. I want to be able to mount it on another device and allow doing this programatically. -
Hi, It looks like it is possible to share individual drives, but, how can I get a mount for the whole array? The reason I'm asking is because I need to transfer files between shares (e.g. from Documents to Backups) but doing this between shares will cause files to be transfered to the host and then to the destination. I want to avoid this and having the files being transferred without having to copy to the local machine, which could be done if I can either mount the whole array or, ideally, create a custom mount that includes those two shares.

Errors reported on parity drive. What do they mean?
joelrfernandes replied to joelrfernandes's topic in General Support
Just ran the extended test and still shows errors (log attached). For sure it's failing and there's no turning back, right? Can't be any other hardware like cables or the controller? ST5000DM000-1FK178_W4J1Y7LG-20180329-1143.txt -

Hello all, Today I noticed that my parity drive had some errors on the S.M.A.R.T. report (log attached), namely: - Reported uncorrect - Current pending sector - Offline uncorrectable What do they mean? It's a fairly recent drive (~1 year old). TIA ST5000DM000-1FK178_W4J1Y7LG-20180329-1012.txt -
