  1. Alright guys, you convinced me, better to go new!! Thanks for all your help. Brit
  2. Hi Guys, thanks for all of the info, it is much appreciated and you have made some very valid points. Last couple of questions then. With the chassis I have is it possible to revamp (MoBo etc) and convert to SATA drives? I know you probably don't know the specifics but this is the model number "Coolermaster 12 Bay STC-T01-UW1". I have found a couple of websites that say they have 'Upgraded' MoBo's that support E-ATX and BTX, are they any good? I am not bothered about doing the work to upgrade, I believe I would have no probs doing it, but I would rather not spend the time if it is not going to work Seems like an awful shame to throw it all away and start again if I can upgrade for a few hundred plus SATA drives....
  3. No AFP is not required, all files will be loss-less MPEG's wherever possible and I have no Apple TV or any other such Apple device that I will use. I take it you mean that for drives <1TB (IDE) v4.7 would be preferred as it will be the most stable?
  4. Although I get what you are saying, how can I reuse just the case as it is set up to take IDE drives? That is why I am asking if there is some kind of adapter from IDE to SATA that works with the trays that I have. If I have to use IDE, that is not too much of a problem, I will just have a limited capacity compared to SATA. Also, why change out the MoBo, RAM etc, there is nothing wrong with the old one and all I will be doing is pushing HD video with it, no big consecutive read/writes etc.... So, I can still get V5 and use my old key? If I have to stay with the old set up, would it be better to use v4.7 with the IDE drives?
  5. Hey all, haven't been here for a while so bear with me. I have one of the original UnRAID servers (running Ver 1 software I believe) built on the 12 Bay coolermaster chassis', with IDE drives... I am under orders from the Boss (yes, the real boss) to either use it or lose it and I have a couple of questions. First, is it possible to change the IDE drives out fro SATA, and if so, what do I need? Second, which is the best and most stable version of the software to install. Due to various work commitments and house moves, this thing has not been run in anger for more than 5 years but I now have my home theater and matrix set up properly and would like to have network storage. If this is not possible or feasible to do economically, would I be better to just buy a new NAS (I hate to just throw good stuff away)? Thanks for all your help in advance... Brit
  6. Hi It has finally become time to sell my server as I no longer will have space to utilize it. I bought it with all good intentions of using it as my media server and to be quite honest, have found that the time I needed to assign to it has not materialized. It is in perfect working order and is based on the Coolermaster unit and was bought new from Lime themselves and all drives were added by myself. I will also provide a spare drive with the unit and it probably only has about 400 hours run time on it. Message me if you are interested. Thanks
  7. Nope, it just stopped working by itself. It should not be due to a power failure as it has it's own UPS and I have not messed with anything myself, although we do get occasional power cuts here in Texas due to the weather. How easy is it to download and update the OS and how would you do that? I bought it last April (ish) as fully built system (minus drives) but I could not tell you what version it is or what the motherboard version is. It was The 1200 I believe. It has all Seagate drives in it or either 300GB or 400GB sizes. It's hard to tell what the last thing I see when I have a monitor connected. It zips by and then all I am left with is a flashing cursor in the corner of the screen. If I remember rightly, one time when I put a monitor on it when it was booting (and working correctly) I was left with most of page of text, which Tom said was correct. I have taken the side panel off and snugged up all of the plugs that I can see. The RAM seems in fine and I can not see any obvious breaks, PCB burns etc etc etc. I have plugged in the flash drive to my laptop but it will not let me attempt to boot to it although again, it seems like all of the files are on it and I can read it OK. Don't know what else to do, guess I will have to go out and buy a PS2 mouse and keyboard from RS and see if I can get into the BIOS.
  8. Yes, it worked fine (although I could not open a control window half the time when I was connected to the internet at the same time but that was a minor annoyance.) I have hooked up a monitor to it and it seems to only boot to a certain point and goes no further. I do not have a PS2 keyboard or mouse to use on this system, only USB and I have tried to use one of those before with no luck so I don't know what else to do there. I have already plugged the USB drive into my other PC and all of the files seem to be there but I must admit I am no expert so I wouldn't be able to tell for sure. I will try booting the flash drive on my laptop and see what happens and apart from that I suppose I will take the case apart and see if I can see anything loose...
  9. Well, I guess this is my last recourse seeing as nobody will answer my emails, shame really. My system seems to have gone completely down. I can neither read nor write to it, can not open a telnet session and my led's are static on the ethernet port. This is despite completely disconnecting it from the rest of the system, attaching a new router to one of my spare computers and attaching a monitor to see what is going on. I get the initial text string when it initially boots but that about it. It does not seem to get any further. I have written several email to the support department asking what is wrong but have not had any answers, can any of you guys help? Brit
  10. For the last couple of days my unRAID has not been available on my network and today I hooked up a monitor to see what was going on, this is what I am seeing I have hooked up a monitor to it and this is the final message I am getting after it has timed out (??) waiting for me to log on at the "Mediaserver" (the name of mine) prompt mediaserver login: remount: /dev/md5 remount: /dev/md3 remount: /dev/md1 remount: /dev/md2 remount: /dev/md4 shell_cmd: killall -w smbd nmbd It looks like it is waiting for me to log on but I have never had to do that "locally" before so I don't know what gives. Also, I am no Linux guru, so I am unsure what is going on there either. I also tried to hook up a keyboard and mouse with no luck, through USB and with PS2 adapters, is this right? Anybody help me here? Thanks. Brit.
  11. I know there probably is not much more progress on this yet but I still have one more question to ask. IF I did want to do this and NOT being a linux dude, how hard would it be to install it and which card would be recomended. I still intend to have two discrete GBit networks and would like to put the second card in, even if it just for file transfers over the second network. All of my HTPC's and PC will both have two GBit cards in them. Thanks. Brit
  12. Hi, just ordered mine on Thursday (hoping to get some kind if shipping info soon from you Lime guys) and I think I only have one question.. I intend to use this as a complete HTPC/PVR server and will be having multiple feeds from this, into an autopatch for distribution. Would it be better to install an extra ethernet card to handle this traffic or can the installed one handle up to 3-4 seperate feeds (2 x DVD and 2 x PVR)?
