  1. Past tense. And I haven't said whose side I'm on . After a (very) little digging, it looks like the sweet spot is the X3470 at less than half the cost of the X3480. So I pulled the trigger and it'll be here in a few days. Thanks for all the advice! p.s. Scrounging makes it even more fun!!! I think a complete used box may be my next upgrade path - much bang, little buck....
  2. Wow - thanks for all the great feedback! I really appreciate it and while I'd like to upgrade the WHOLE system, the prudent course of action is the incremental one at this point. As to core wars, I agree competition only benefits the consumer. In the spirit of full disclosure, though, I must admit I worked at Intel for 10 years and am not unbiased as a result. Thanks again!
  3. I am currently running Unraid 6.3.5 on a six year old box with a Supermicro X8SIL-F motherboard with core i3-530 processor (2585 Passmark score) and 16 gigs of ECC ram. I currently only transcode 1 Plex Media Server stream at a time but would like to be able to do two. Typical NAS duties otherwise. System has been rock solid from day one. For about $100 I can swap in a Xeon X3480 processor (5732 Passmark score) which I believe to be the upper limit of the LGA socket 1156 MB. I'm not too hung up on the power usage (95 TDP Xeon vs. 73 TDP Core i3), but does it make sense to invest in 6 year old architecture for such a modest improvement in Passmark score? Thanks!
  4. Yeah, I realized that when Gog mentioned his Nvidia Shield TV. The web client on my Unraid box has a "watch now" section in the Program Guide but only has a record option so I thought I had misconfigured something....
  5. I downloaded the current lsio version (1.7.2.3878) about 10 days ago. DVR is working fine with HDHR Connect but I have no Live TV option. Do I just delete this container and re-install to get that working or are there other things I need to do? Thanks!
  6. UPDATE - I went back to the flash drive to see what files had been mnodified diring attempted upgrade and those included the super.dat file. When I copied the old one from 4.7 over the revised one, everything was back to normal. Now I have to figure out why no web gui is available after the 5.0 upgrade. Suggestions appreciated. All, I followed the upgrade instructions for 4.7->5.0rc and after I copied bzimage and bzroot extracted from the zip file, on reboot, no web gui, just the command prompt. So I re-copied the 4.7 bzimage and bzroot files back to the flash drive and rebooted. This time I was able to launch the web gui but the array was stopped with a bunch of DISK_WRONG errors. I checked in the device list and the correct drives are in the correct slots. I think this has to do with the model# vs serial # id differences betw. 4.7 and 5.0 but I can't find a fix. I searched on several terms. Here are the pertinent lines from the syslog: Jun 22 20:53:09 Tower kernel: md: import disk0: [8,0] (sda) WDC WD20EARS-00M WD-WCAZA0409404 size: 1953514552 Jun 22 20:53:09 Tower kernel: md: disk0 wrong Jun 22 20:53:09 Tower kernel: md: import disk1: [8,16] (sdb) ST32000542AS 5XW1BG5D size: 1953514552 Jun 22 20:53:09 Tower kernel: md: disk1 wrong Jun 22 20:53:09 Tower kernel: md: import disk2: [8,32] (sdc) ST32000542AS 5XW17WHL size: 1953514552 Jun 22 20:53:09 Tower kernel: md: disk2 wrong Full syslog attached. Thanks!
  7. Thanks - I see that in the 4.7 release notes: "If you have formatted an EARS drive with a previous version of unRAID or Windows with the jumper in place, we recommend you leave the jumper in place and do not re-format the drive; just treat it as a non-AF drive. There is NO performance penalty for doing this!"
  8. What about jumpered drives already in the system with an upgrade to 4.7 - leave alone? Remove jumper?
  9. I jumped on the Jetway deal before the Zotac deal was offered and now wish I hadn't. If you Google "Jetway+XBMC" you will find that few, if any, have successfully implemented XBMC Live on the Jetway. While XBMC appears to work fine over Ubuntu 10.10 on the mini-top, I was hoping to be able to use the Live CD and it sounds like that won't work just now. Bummed. YMMV.
