  1. I just installed 6.5.1-rc2 and noticed that I don't have the option to edit the XML for my vm. Without being able to edit the XML directly, how do I configure the VNC port for a VM? Thanks!
  2. My problem was much stupider than that! I added the rcu_nocbs option to the sysconfig-- but missed the non-gui boot section! OPPS! Maybe I need those new glasses afterall! Thanks for all the help!
  3. I tried the rcu_nocbs option in the syslinux config, but it seems like that option was removed from the latest kernel. (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196683)
  4. I'm using 6.4.0_rc15e on a Ryzen 7 1700, 16GB ram, msi gaming pro x370 motherboard. I run 2 VMs (both ubuntu linux), and a few dockers (plex, duckdns, crashplan pro). My Cstate is disabled and bios is updated. Things seem to run ok, but the computer won't stay on more than a day--typically it crashes shortly after the parity check finishes! How can I tell if I need to be more patient to wait for unraid/linux to catch up or if there is something wrong w/ my hardware? Thanks! Ron
  5. Right--I understand that..but when I look at the 'dashboard', it shows the SMART status for the parity drive and data 2 to be good...but data 2 is faulty... Should I replace data 2...then rebuild...then replace data 1?
  6. The only things that have changed is that I've purchased the key, and rebooted the server.... Why would the drive the works have bad SMART and the drive that is dead has good SMART? So I'd need 2 new drives--what's the safest way to rebuild everything?
  7. Sorry for the long pause before a reply... I've attached the diagnostics...the BIOS sees all 3 drives installed tower-diagnostics-20151203-1453.zip
  8. I upgraded from unraid 5.04 to 6.1.3...everything went well (a few hiccups but nothing too serious)...there is one issue I'm having though. I can't confirm it, but I believe my drives were fine before the upgrade..after the upgrade it's saying one of my drives is bad. Is there any way I can have it check teh drives? How can I do a parity check? (I don't see anything in the GUI)
  9. I have several plugins and unmenu installed...somewhere along the line (or possibly several) of the plugins cause CPAN to download various perl modules during boot up. I have two (possibly naive) questions: 1. Is there a way to download the files local so I don't have to keep re-download the modules each time? 2. Assuming I can get #1 to happen, is there a way to stop the CPAN from running at all? (I'm picturing the scenario where we lose power & internet. And then the power comes back on, but the internet doesnt. That would probably keep my unraid server from booting, no?) Thanks!
  10. Recently I had an issue on my server which is a bit "unexpected"... A drive went bad--it would get "write" errors, but unraid wouldn't mark the drive as bad. Using the smart utilities, the hd was saying it couldn't reallocat the blocks (or something to that effect. I replaced the drive and resynced it and everything seemed good. As I randomly checked some (of the 45k) pictures I have stored on there, I noticed about 10% of them were corrupted. (That is the color would be off or pixels would be shifted.) This was quite puzzling. Then the unraid server's samaba deamon would crash, and one time the kernel crashed... To make a long story short, after many failed resierfsck's, it turns out my memory was bad. I removed the bad memory and everything was fine. This includes the corrupted pictures. While I'm greatly relieved that everything worked out ok, my questions are: * How do I know when files get corrupted? (I can't look at each file every X days to make sure they are ok!) * What's the best backup strategy? My concern is that I don't want to backup the corrupted version...so a "time machine" type backup may be the best one, but what works like that with unraid? Thanks! Ron
  11. Yep! That's what I did (when I figured out what the problem was)..but I was hoping for a more seamless way to solve the issue :-/
  12. True--but then I'd have to update the iTunes.XML file so that all the locations are in lowercase as well. :-/ That's sort of the tricky part...iTunes doesn't keep it in all lower or all uppercase, but it keeps it mixed...
  13. Hello, I run itunes on a PC, but store the files on my unraid server. I noticed that the URLs in the iTunes xml file may vary from the actual file name based on case: (Ex: Born To Run may be the file name, but the xml file has Born to Run) Since windows is case insensitive, this doesn't matter..but I run a squeezebox server on my unraid box. And squeezebox can't file the file, since the names are different. Is there any way to the file system case insensitive? (Can unraid run ciopfs? ) Thanks! rwc
  14. I think I know the answer, but is there any way to "install" an updated network driver into the unraid kernel? Or does it require a whole recompile/reconfigure? Also--not that I'm holding anybody to any dates--but when they say 5.03beta is due "any day"; should I wait (ie: most likely in the next week or 2?) or should I just bite the bullet and get a new NIC?
