  1. Thanks for the good answers thus far. If anyone else has anything to add please do so.
  2. I am just curious if anyone is using UnRaid in their business or enterprise? If so, how did you sell it to upper management? How did it compare with commercial solutions? Are there case studies available? Thanks

    File Length

I spend 2 days copying one of my drives over to unraid and lots of stuff did not get copied over because of the file name length. What is the max file length and is there a utility that I can run to normalize it?
  4. OK, for the past 2 weeks I have been building a 'proof of concept' box based on the budget build. I have 8 hard drives, but will have another 4 coming in this week. Now that it is working what do I do with it? I see Disk1 through Disk7 (All 2TB drives) which can get pretty confusing. How do you organize all your volumes? I have 4 TB of media that I need to put on there. Do you just copy your stuff over the GB network? I am lacking some concrete direction on what I should be doing with the box. Any ideas? My plans for box is to store media and make it available to different resources and system backups. I have all this space but not sure what I should be doing with it. Any ideas for a good road map?
  5. As someone that is working on their first build it was hard to find the recommended budget build motherboard. I ended up going with someone on Ebay on it. The reason why I searched so hard was because with this being my first build I didn't want anything to go wrong so it was best for me to stick to highly recommended components. It would be nice to have 3 ranges of recommended build types. Budget, mid-range, and high end. I saw gleaming reports of other motherboards working, but again I did want to deviate from the recommended build. When it comes to storage I am sure that some people are price sensitive, but I am not one of them. I have no problem paying for quality when it comes to protecting my data, but it would be nice to have 3 build tiers to choose from.
  6. In for one. This is going towards my first build. Thanks for the code which did stack for me as well.
