  1. I currently have 6 disks in my array. I have an 8tb parity drive and 5 4tb data drives. I am downsizing and want to remove the 8tb parity, and replace it with one of the existing empty 4tb drives. I then want to take the 8tb and another empty 4tb drive out of the system to use for a different build. What would be the safest way to do this?
  2. NOT the right thing to do unless you've given up on reconstructing your failed drive #5. IF your plan is to give up on a reconstruction (since you don't have good parity to do this with), and you simply try to copy what you can from the old, failed, disk; then you need to do a NEW CONFIG and set the drives as you want -- THEN it will start fine and do a new parity sync. If, however, you want to try to force the bad parity to be used anyway to reconstruct disk 5 (which I do not recommend; but that's what Fireball3 suggested and you implied you might want to do); then what you need to do is a New Config with all the original assignments -- checking the "Parity is Good" box; and then IMMEDIATELY stop the parity check that starts when you Start the array. Then Stop the array; unassign disk5; Start the array (so it shows as missing); and then Stop the array and assign a new disk to the disk5 slot; and then Start the array again ... it will now do a rebuild onto the new disk5. I DO NOT recommend this process ... you'll end up with a "known bad" disk5 => and since you don't have backups to compare it against, I'm not sure what you gain from it. I'd just do what I had suggested -- do a New Config with both a new disk5 and a new parity drive; let the new parity sync be computed; and then, with a known-good array, just copy whatever data you can read from the old disk to the good array. Ok I do want to just scrap Disk 5 and the Parity Drive, but I'm unsure about how to go about starting a new configuration. Do I physically replace both drives at once? Before starting the new configuration?
  3. Ok I tried to add 2 drives at once, and I get the error: "Stopped. Invalid configuration. Too many wrong and/or missing disks!" I also see the old drive in italicized font underneath the new parity drive. I can assign the data disk and parity drives but I can't do anything with the array. So i tried disconnecting the new parity drive, and hooking the old one back up. I have an orange orb next to the old parity drive and the new disk 5 data drive. I tell it to format the unformated drive (disk 5) but then it doesn't do anything and im stuck on this screen with the attached picture below
  4. Just to be clear, these are the steps I need to do (i do not have good backups): 1. Remove both drives. 2. Add new parity drive and a new disk 5. 3. Start parity sync 4. Attempt to copy files from "disabled" disk 5 data back on from another computer? Is it possible that there may be a cabling issue, or does the log indicate the physical connections are working, but the drives are indeed defective? And how would I go about starting a ticket with lime-tech? I only see a contact form on the main page. Is that it?
  5. Version 4.7 Noticed my server hanging up one day and restarted it. When it came back online I noticed that there was an orange dot for the parity, and red for disk 5. In umenu, the parity disk shows up as invalid and disk 5 shows up as disk_dsbl. I'm guessing disk 5 is kaput and needs to be swapped out? I've attached the log below syslog-2013-11-19_1.txt
  6. I understand the risks. So it'll essentially work as I've described correct? I can still store and access data, but it won't be protected.
  7. My unraid system consists of 9tb worth of data drive, a 2tb parity, and a 650gb cache drive. I'm beginning to run out of data space (less than 60gb) and I'm reluctant to purchase a hard drive now as prices are still sky high. Can I just continue to put files on the cache drive after my data drives are full and they simply won't be transferred over with my scheduled nightly transfers?
  8. I'm trying to manually move files from my cache folder to a user share and it's incredibly slow. I'm getting 1MB/S if I'm lucky, and most of the time in the KB/S range. It was never like this before, and I'm not sure what may have changed. I'm running unraid 4.7 and the only things I have installed is SabnZB, Sickbeard and Unmenu log.txt
  9. Megabytes per second. I am taking a file on my win7 laptop hard drive, dragging and dropping directly into the user share. There is a cache drive, and from my understanding of Unraid, it is actually putting the data onto the cache drive and not one of the data drives. I am using the same EVERYTHING, which in my tests, consisted of a laptop, a gigabit router, and my unraid server. Cables are Cat6, all from monoprice. The only thing that changes is me unplugging a cable and switching it with a new one. Like I stated in my initial post, I have gotten good speeds with some older monoprice cables, but out of the current batch of cables, only one would give me the speed that I was used to. Cables are of varying length from 3ft-14ft and are not run around anything. I am literally sitting right next to the router as I'm plugging and unplugging the wires (same port each time). Now I've heard of the occasional story of people receiving bad batches of their bulk cables (1000ft spools) so it wouldn't be to much of a stretch to imagine one bad spool getting cut up into a bunch of bad smaller cables.
  10. Yes I've tried switching cables without a reboot, and I would never get good speeds. It was only after a reboot, would I get decent speeds.
  11. Yes they all are. If they weren't I don't think I would be able to get ~50mb/s right? No settings were modified while I was testing the cables. The only thing that changed was that I switched ends and rebooted.
  12. All of my network cables have been from monoprice. However the last batch I got, only one cable was able to transmit over 8mb/s. I'm no networking expert but the way I tested them was hooked up my laptop to my gigabit router and transferred a 4gb file to my unraid server. If results were slow, I'd flip the ends, reboot and repeat. Only one cable gave me ~50mb/s the rest were in the 2-8mb/s range. All signs point to the cables unless there may be something I may have overlooked. The funny thing is, I have a few older monoprice cat6 cables and they work great. However I don't want to take another gamble, so if anybody has any other suggestions for cables and where to get them, I would appreciate it.
  13. Attached syslog. Deleted 90% of it though, because it was just Sabdnzb, sickbeard, and couch potato stuff.
  14. Well from my understanding, when I drag and drop a file from my windows 7 laptop into the Movies share, it actually puts it on the cache drive, and creates a folder for it. Then at night it transfers the files over to a data drive. However in my media player, I can immediatly access the file even though it's sitting in the cache drive, because it sees it under the share folder. I will get a syslog tonight.
  15. Ok I currently have Sabdnzb setup to download and extract files onto my cache drive. My media player is setup to read movies from my "Movies" share. When I move my newly downloaded file from the cache drive over into the Movies share, it is extremely slow (2 mb/s). Now if I have Sabdnzb setup to download onto my laptop, I can transfer it over to my Movies share at (40-80 mb/s). Is this normal? Is downloading onto my laptop and moving files over to the share folder manually the best way? Apr 18 04:40:01 tower syslogd 1.4.1: restart.
