  1. Swapped the SATA cable and ran extended SMART. Everything looked good so I rebuilt the drive without any issues. No "device reset" syslog errors since the cable change. I will mark this as solved. Thanks for the help.
  2. Ya I am suspecting that as well. I am currently trying a new cable to see if that fixes the problem. Do I still need to rebuild the drive? The contents are unchanged since it was disabled.
  3. One of my disks has been disabled after errors were found at the start of my monthly parity check. This is the first time i've had any disk errors in many years of running unraid so i'm looking for some guidance. SMART test on the disk is passing but i'm seeing multiple disk3 read / write errors in the syslog right when the parity check was started (May 1, 02:00:10). The SMART test (and unraid GUI) are reporting udma crc error count is 1 which i've read can be due to bad cables. I did purchase this LSI 9207-8i HBA card flashed to IT mode back in November and it has been working flawlessly since then (I have been using the included SFF 8087 cables). The drive in question is older (approaching 40k power on hours) but has never had any issues. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Edit: Looking through the syslog, i am noticing a lot of: sd 7:0:5:0: Power-on or device reset occurred This is only on the disk in question (disk3, /dev/sdh). Power and SATA cables are seated properly. tower-diagnostics-20230503-1521.zip
  4. I have an odd problem that is driving me crazy. I previously had a share called "Users". I recently deleted all data from that share and then deleted the share itself. It no longer shows up as a user share in the web UI and it has been removed from the /etc/samba/smb-shares.conf file. I have restarted the array several times and have rebooted the machine as well. No matter what I do, the share still shows up when I browse the available shares over the network, both on Mac and Windows clients. I thought that it was possibly a caching issue with the client(s) so I ran the following command from a linux client on the network: smbclient -L //IP-OF-UNRAID-SERVER -U MYUSER Sure enough, the "Users" share is still listed there. When trying to connect to the "Users" share I get an error saying the share is not available (which makes sense). Anybody know what is going on here? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Running Version 6.11.5
  5. No I didn't end up purchasing this. I really want to go with a Ryzen build but it looks like there are a fair number of issues with Ryzen and unRaid. Hopefully they are sorted out soon.
  6. Hi there, I'm looking at upgrading my unRAID server that has been going strong for many years (e8400 core 2 duo w/ 2 GB ram). Essential needs are: --> Up to 5 simultaneous 1080p Plex transcode streams --> Up to 4 simultaneous local Plex streams (no transcoding) --> Docker containers for Plex, nzbget, sonar and deluge (vpn) --> A few different Linux VMs for multiple purposes, the primary one being software development (QT5 for embedded Linux). The following parts will be reused from my current build: --> EVGA 650 superNOVA --> CM Stacker (original) case --> MX 300 525GB cache drive --> 11TB disk array spread over various 2,3 and 4 TB drives --> Fanless ATI GPU (don't remember the model) I have a budget of roughly $1000 CAD to upgrade the board, CPU and memory I'm thinking of the following components: --> E5 2683 V3 (OEM SR1XH) (~500 CAD from EBay) --> Asrock X99 Taichi --> 32 GB 2133 DDR4 (haven't picked a brand yet) Anything I am missing here? Thought, suggestions, criticism are all welcome. Thanks.
  7. Thanks Joe. Thats kinda what I gathered by your previous responses but I wanted to be sure.
  8. Just finished preclearing my seagate 1.5TB drive with the intent on using it as a data disk in my array. It says the preclear was successful but I have re-allocated sectors. Should I be worried about using this drive? I have attached the full report also if it helps. preclear_results.txt
  9. Thanks, I was looking for a "Use Cache Disk Only" -- Yes / No button....
  10. I am using 5.0-RC3 but I do not see any options to create a share and set it to "only use cache drive". Where do I go for that?
  11. Thanks for the quick response. I have the export disabled for each of these shares and I have checked the syslog to make sure mover skips these shares when it runs so I guess there is no real problem If I were to make the ServerApps directory hidden then these shares would not show up right? Is this what most of you guys are doing? Or do you just make these directories visible and not export the automatically created shares via samba?
  12. I have finished setting up my first unRAID box and have a question about the cache drive. Currently I have a 3TB parity drive, a 3TB data drive, and a 320GB cache drive. On the data drive I have 2 shares -- Movies and TV, each setup with their own split levels and each configured to use the cache drive. I have tested this and it works great. I have a folder on the cache drive called ServerApps which is where I am installing sabnzbd and sickbeard. I have noticed that unraid has created a user share for this folder and I'm not really sure why. I thought the cache drive was outside of the array and that user shares were meant for data inside the array. It seems like a user share is made for any new folder I make on the cache drive. What is the point of this? If I run the mover script manually these folders / files don't go anywhere and remain on the cache drive. I guess im just a little confused. Thanks.
  13. Alright, the parity check has just finished with 0 errors! Time to start copying my data. I have installed the two XFS drives in another system and am accessing them through an Ubuntu 12.04 live CD. The XFS drives are mounted and I can see the 3TB disk1 on the unRAID box from the Ubuntu box. Given that I have about 2.5TB of data to transfer, what is the best way to do this? Can you run CRC or MD5 on entire directories? Should I be using rsync to move the data? I came across the following howto for rsync: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=13432.msg127670#msg127670 Is this something I should look into (setting up rsync daemon on the unraid box)? I do not intend on using rsync for periodic backups so I'm not sure. I simply want to get my data transferred to the new array. Thanks EDIT: I have decided to use MD5DEEP to verify the contents of the copy. Data is still copying but so far so good
  14. Thanks guys, I will wait for the sync to finish (almost done) and then check the parity before copying data to the array. I appreciate the help and will report back with an update after I get the data copied
  15. Thanks for the help. I did read that having the parity disk in place before the initial data migration would slow things down but I also read that doing it this way was a good way to test the system. I'm not in a big rush to get everything setup so I don't mind the extra time it takes to write data with the parity disk. As for running a parity check after the sync is finished.... I was not aware of that. Do you suggest running the parity check right after the sync finishes? Can I start copying data to the array while the parity check is being done or should I wait for the check to come back (hopefully error free) before moving data?
