  1. Dude. Seriously. CHILL. I meant no offence, and was trying NOT to be a smart alec. I stated the only possible reason I could think of that drive serial numbers would be remotely sensitive, and you seem to think I was attacking you. I was asking a serious question, and got attacked in return. You say your reasons are private, that's fine, I was just trying to figure out if the anonymizer could be improved to help people be more comfortable posting their diagnostics, which are imperative to troubleshooting many issues. The internet is sometimes difficult to read someone's tone, and I apologize if you interpreted what I asked as improper. I will refrain from trying to help in the future.

  2. Look up NAT reflection or loopback. https://doc.pfsense.org/index.php/Why_can't_I_access_forwarded_ports_on_my_WAN_IP_from_my_LAN/OPTx_networks

  3. I disagree with the assessment of @jonathanm's inflection, and he did quantify why he was asking by suggesting if there was a good reason then changes could be made to mitigate this. And he did ask what data can be inferred from them. I also couldn't understand why you didn't want to post drive serial numbers and wondered why you cared about people knowing about your warranty status. And several of us were also interested to here your reply so that indicates it's a valid question. I can actually see your point in terms of privacy and not one I had considered previously but personally I think you owe @jonathanm an apology imho.

  4. As was I Personally, since I don't see any reason why to hide drive serial numbers, I really hope that the anonymizer doesn't start doing this. It would be rather hard to analyze a log and tell someone that I think there's a problem with a drive's serial number starting with "W" and ending in "5". But what's done is done There's only one user that I can think of who's rare replies is abrasive / sarcastic. And, that's just the type of person that he is. My feelings is that the forum at large is always helpful (or tries to be) even with the most simple or repetitive questions. If you believe that these forums are abrasive, then I'd say hang out for awhile in the FreeNAS forums. The only way that I see that it could possibly be considered abrasive / curt / whatnot is that it is more common nowadays to simply reply to questions / concerns / whatnot with a link and no explanation because the link (quite often to one of the FAQ) explains and/or answers the question already.

  5. FWIW I was actually interested to hear the reasons and thought jonathanm asked a serious question, I didn't take his tone to be anything other than genuinely interested, I don't feel that reply was warranted imho.

  6. @binhex - This works great thank you. Have created accounts for all my friends and it is working flawlessly with my DDNS entry so i can use it outside of the home network.

  7. With unRAID6 GUI it is possible to set individual controller and device settings per disk to allow proper reading of SMART reports. See SMART settings of each disk. The 60-persistent-storage.rules file of bubbaQ is outdated and doesn't work with the latest unRAID versions, better use the Dynamix SCSI Devices plugin, which inserts the necessary rules and keeps the rules file up-to-date.

  8. Thanks, Raidserver, for the reply. I am away for the holiday and will not be back until Tuesday. I will look at it again then. Thanks

  9. You're gonna need a bigger budget imo Transcoding at 4K, you'll need a CPU Passmark > 8000. You'd probably want a KabyLake at that for the access to the DRM microcode for 4K as well HDD's I always say start big. So with a basic license you could use 3 or 4TB disks and stay under the 6 disk limit. You'll need 3-4 disks from the above Then you'll need a decent mobo with enough SATA. Case and PSU Use that SSD that you have CPU - i5-7600 - $220 Mobo - H270 - $150? Case - depends if you want hotswap drives - $?? PSU - good quality modular - $150 Drives - 3TB/4TB - $400-600 HeatSink - Stock? SSD - use exisiting RAM - 16/32GB DDR4 - $300 You're kinda looking around $1000 before Drives. To answer some of your points: 1) Easily done 2) Yep can use privoxy in sabnzbvpn to tunnel the traffic via vpn, with easy config for PIA 3) 4K is going to hurt. As above 2000pass mark per 1080, so make sure the CPU has enough horsepower 4) Dockers will do most things, VMs are useful too, I use one for a DHCP/DNS/Jumphost on Server 2016 HTH Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. Started doing some tests, I'm going to change the methodology, because in my thinking if I only over provisioned one of the SSDs the test can be limited by the parity SSD, since it won't be over provisioned, any performance improvement may not be visible, so I'm first testing in a 3 SSD array, all using full capacity, then I'll over provisioned all 3 and repeat the tests. P.S. Now that I want them to slow down they haven't yet, I'm using 120GB 850 EVOs and I've written more than 1TB to disk1 and it's still writing at max speed 157MB/s (150MB/s is the announced max sustained writing speed for this model, also for anyone interested if I use normal read/write/modify instead of turbo write, write speed is 112MB/s due to the parity write penalty, so as expected parity penalty is much lower than with HDDs )

  11. Lol, are we going to petition the willy wonka company to change the name of their candy too? I guess its not a big deal to change the name, I just have to laugh at the thought of someone honestly being offended by the name when www.thinkgeek.com is a real website. I'm a nerd / geek and proud of it!!!
